ENTITLED AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTIONS 12-29
AND 12-20 OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF BEAUMONT,
TEXAS, BY INCREASING THE BASE PAY OF ALL
GRADES IN THE POLICE DEPARTMENT AND THE FIRE
DEPARTMENT OF THE CITY, AND BY INCREASING THE
NUMBER OF POSITIONS IN GRADES I. II, III AND IV
OF THE POLICE DEPARTMENT.OF THE CITY AND BY
INCREASING THE NUMBER OF POSITIONS= -IN GRADES -1 -
AND III OF THE FIRE DEPARTMENT OF THE CITY AND
BY CHANGING SOME OF THE JOB TITLES WITHIN CER-
TAIN GRADES OF THE POLICE DEPARTMENT AND THE
FIRE DEPARTMENT OF THE CITY; REPEALING ALL CON-
FLICTING ORDINANCES; AND PROVIDING FOR SEVER-
ABILITY.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF BEAUMONT, TEXAS:
Section 1.
That Section 12-29 of the Code of Ordinances of Beaumont,
Texas, is hereby amended to read as follows:
"Sec. 12-29. Grades and classifications in
po ice epartment.
"All positions in the police department of the
City of Beaumont, Texas, are hereby classified
into the following grades, each grade having
duties of substantially similar authority,
importance and responsibility:
"(1) Grade I. There shall be one hundred twenty-
two (1 positions in Grade I, said positions
to include patrolmen. The base pay of every
officer in this grade with less than six (6) months
service shall be five hundred fifty ($550.00)
dollars per month; the base pay of every officer
in his grade with more than six (6) months
service but -not more than eighteen (18) months
service shall be six hundred ($600.00) dollars
per month; and the base pay of every officer in
this grade with more than eighteen (18) months
service shall be six hundred twenty-five ($625.00)
dollars per month.
"(2) Grade II. There shall be forty-seven (47)
positions 1 Grade II, said positions to include
sergeants, detectives and identification tech-
nicians. The base pay of every officer -in this
grade shall be seven hundred ($700.00) dollars
per month.
"(3) Grade III. There shall be eight (8) posi-
tions in Grade III, said positions to include
lieutenants. The base pay of every officer in
this grade shall be seven hundred seventy-five
($775.00) dollars per month.
"(4) Grade IV. There shall be six (6) positions
in Grade IV, said positions to include captains.
The base pay of every officer in this grade shall
be eight hundred fifty ($850.00) dollars per month.
11(5) Grade V. There shall be two (2) positions
in Gra e_V, said positions to include inspectors.
The base pay of every officer in this grade shall
be nine hundred twenty-five ($925.00) dollars per
month.
"(6) Grade VI. There shall be one (1) position
in Grade VI, said position being assistant chief
of police. The base pay of the officer in this
grade shall be one thousand seventy-five ($1075.00)
dollars per month."
Section 2.
That Section 12-20 of the Code of Ordinances of Beaumont,
Texas, is hereby amended to read as follows:
"Sec. 12-20. Grades and classifications in fire
epartment.
"All positions in the fire department of the City
of Beaumont, Texas, are hereby classified into the
following grades, each grade having duties of sub-
stantially similar authority, importance and
responsibility:
"(1) Grade I. There shall be ninety-three (93) positions
in Gra e� said positions to include pipemen, hose -
men, and laddermen. The base pay of every fireman
in this grade with less than six (6) months service
shall be five hundred fifty ($550.00) dollars per
month; the base pay of every fireman in this grade
with more than six (6) months service but not more
than eighteen (18) months service shall be six
hundred ($600.00) dollars per month; and the base
pay of every fireman in this grade with more than
eighteen (18) months service shall be six hundred
twenty-five ($625.00) dollars per month.
11(2) Grade II. There shall be fifty-six (56)
positions in II, said positions to include
engineers, supply officer and investigator. The
base pay of every fireman in this grade shall be
seven hundred ($700.00) dollars per month.

"(3) Grade III. There shall be forty-two (42)
positions in Grade III, said positions to include
dispatchers, fire marshal -investigator, captains
and assistant to fire marshal. The base pay of
every fireman in this grade shall be seven hundred
seventy-five ($775.00) dollars per month.
"(4) Grade IV. There shall be eleven (11) posi-
tions in Grade IV, said positions to include
district chiefs, chief fire alarm operator and
fire marshal. The base pay of every fireman in
this grade shall be eight hundred fifty ($850.00)
dollars per month.
"(5) Grade V. There shall be three (3) positions
in Grade V. said positions to include deputy chiefs.
The base pay of every fireman in this grade shall
be nine hundred twenty-five ($925.00) dollars per
month.
11(6) Grade VI. There shall be one (1) position
in Grade VI, said position being drillmaster. The
base pay of the fireman in this grade shall be
nine hundred thirty-five ($935.00) dollars per
month.
"(7) Grade VII. There shall be one (1) -,position
in Grade VII, said position being assistant fire
chief. The base pay of the fireman in this grade
shall be one thousand seventy-five ($1075.00)
dollars per month."
Section 3.
All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict with
the provisions of this ordinance are hereby repealed to the
extent of such conflict.
Section 4.
If any section, subsection, sentence, clause or phrase
of this ordinance or the application of same to a particular
set of persons or circumstances shall, for any reason be found
to be invalid, such invalidity shall in no wise affect the
remaining portions of this ordinance, and to such end the
various portions and provisions of this ordinance are declared
to be severable.

PASSED by the City Council this the 7th day of July,
