ORDINANCE NO. 70 - _.
ENTITLED AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 12 OF
THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF BEAUMONT, TEXAS,
SECTION 12-35 THEREOF, BY ADDING A. NEW CLASS
ENTITLED 11TRAFFIC OPERATIONS SUPERINTENDENT"
TO THE POSITION CLASSIFICATION PLAN INCOR-
PORATED BY REFERENCE IN SAID SECTION 12-35;
PROVIDING THAT SAID NEW CLASS AND TTS CORRE-
SPONDING "CLASS�SPECIFICATION" IS TO BE
INCLUDED IN THE POSITION CLASSIFICATION PLAN
ON FILE IN THE OFFICE OF THE CITY CLERK.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF BEA.UMONT, TEXAS:

That the Code of Ordinances of Beaumont, Texas, is
hereby amended by adding to the position classification plan
incorporated by reference in Chapter 12, Section 12-35 of the
said Code, the following new class and its corresponding class
specification:
TRAFFIC OPERATIONS SUPERINTENDENT
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:
This is supervisory and technical traffic
engineering work with responsibility for
field operations and installation and main-
tenance of all traffic control devices.
The employee in this class has considerable
latitude for independent action within the
limits of Traffic and Transportation Depart-
ment policy directions, programs, guides
and,established practices and procedures.
Work is performed under the direction of
the Traffic Engineer and reviewed for re-
sults in meeting the operational require-
ments of the system. In absence of the
Traffic Engineer acts as head of the
department.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS:
Considerable knowledge of the principles
and practices" of all traffic --
devices and the ability to plan, layout
and'direct field operational activities;
ability to prepare detailed reports, cost
estimates and develop corrective and pre-
ventive maintenance programs. Considerable
knowledge of traffic signal controllers and
associated equipment.
ACCEPTABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
Graduation from a standard high school and
preferably completion of trade school or
college courses relating to traffic engineer-
ing work; at least five years experience in
a supervisory level of traffic control
functions or any equivalent combination
of training and experience which provides
the required knowledge, abilities and
skills.

That the said new class and its corresponding class
specification be added to the 11Schematic List of Classes" and
the "Class Specifications" of the position classification plan
on file in the office of the City Clerk, and the said new class
shall be incorporated by reference into Section 12-35 of the
Code of Ordinances of Beaumont, Texas, and the position classi-
fication plan adopted in said Section 12-35, as fully and com-
pletely as though copied verbatim therein.
PASSED by the City Council this the 29th day of
December, 1970.
