ORDINANCE NO. '71-.2-F
ENTITLED AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTIONS 12-19
AND 12-20 OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF BEAUMONT,
TEXAS, BY INCREASING THE BASE PAY OF ALL GRADES
IN THE POLICE DEPARTMENT AND THE FIRE DEPARTMENT
OF THE CITY AND BY INCREASING THE NUMBER OF
POSITIONS IN GRADES I AND II OF THE FIRE DEPART-
MENT OF THE CITY; REPEALING ALL CONFLICTING
ORDINANCES; AND PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF BEAUMONT, TEXAS:
Section 1.
That Section 12-19 of the Code of Ordinances of Beau-
mont, Texas, is hereby amended to read as follows:
"Sec. 12-19. Grades and classifications in
police department.
"All positions in the police department of
the City'o.f Beaumont, Texas, are hereby classified
into the following grades, each grade having duties
of substantially similar authority, importance and
responsibility:
"(1) Grade I. There shall be one hundred
twenty-two (122) positions in Grade I, said posi-
tions;to include patrolmen. The base pay of every
officer in this grade with less than six (6) months
service shall be Five Hundred Seventy -Eight and
No/100 ($578.00) Dollars per month; the base pay
of every officer in this grade with more than six
(6) months service but not more than eighteen (18)
months service shall be Six Hundred Thirty and
No/100 ($630.00) Dollars per month; and the base
pay of every officer in this grade with more than
eighteen (18) months service shall be Six Hundred
Fifty Six and No/100 ($656.00) Dollars per month.
"(2) Grade II. There shall be forty-seven
(47) positions in Grade II, said positions to
include sergeants, detectives and identification
technicians. The base pay of every officer'in this
grade shall be Seven Hundred Thirty -Five and No/100
($735.00) Dollars per month.
"(3) Grade III. There shall be eight (8)
positions in Grade III, said positions to include
lieutenants. The base pay of every officer in
this grade shall be Eight Hundred Fourteen and
No/100 -('$814-0'00) Dollars per month.

"(4) Grade IV. There shall be six (6) posi-
tions in Grade IV, said positions to include
captains. The base pay of every officer in this
grade shall be Eight Hundred Ninety -Three and
No/100 ($893.00) Dollars per month.
"(5) Grade V. There shall be two (2) positions
in Grade V, said positions to include inspectors.
The base pay of every officer in this grade shall
be Nine Hundred Seventy -One and No/100 ($971.00)
Dollars per month.
"(6) Grade VI. There shall be one (1) posi-
tion in Grade VI, said position being assistant
chief of police. The base pay of the officer in
this grade shall be One Thousand One Hundred
Twenty -Five and No/100 ($1,125.00) Dollars per month."
Section 2.
That Section 12-20 of the Code of Ordinances of Beau -
Mont, Texas, is hereby amended to read as follows:
"Sec. 12-20. Grades and classifications in fire
department.
"All positions in the fire department of the
City of Beaumont, Texas, are hereby classified into
the following grades, each grade having duties of
substantially similar authority, importance and
responsibility:
"(1) Grade I. There shall be ninety-six (96)
positions in Grade I, said positions to include
pipemen, hosemen and laddermen. The base pay of
every fireman in this grade with less than six
(6) months service shall be Five Hundred Seventy -
Eight and No/100 ($578.00) Dollars per month; the
base pay of every fireman in this grade with more
than six (6) months service but not more than
eighteen (18) months service shall be Six Hundred
Thirty and No/100 ($630.00) Dollars per month; and
the base pay of every fireman in this grade with
more than eighteen (18) months service shall be
Six Hundred Fifty -Six and No/100 ($656.00) Dollars
per month.
11(2) Grade II. There shall be fifty-nine (59)
positions in Grade II, said positions to include

"(3) Grade III. There shall be forty-two
(42) positions in Grade III, said positions to
include dispatchers, fire marshal -investigator,
captains and assistant to fire marshal. The base
pay of every fireman in this grade shall be Eight
Hundred Fourteen and No/100 ($814.00) Dollars per
month.
"(4) Grade IV. There shall be eleven (11)
positions in Grade IV, said positions to include
district chiefs, chief fire alarm operator and
fire marshal. The base pay of every fireman in this
grade shall be Eight Hundred Ninety -Three and No/100
($893.00) Dollars per month.
"(5) Grade V. There shall be three (3) posi-
tions in Grade V. said positions to include deputy
chiefs. The base pay of every fireman in this
grade shall be Nine Hundred Seventy -One and No/100
($971.00) Dollars per month.
"(6) Grade VI. There shall be one (1) posi-
tion in Grade VI, said position being drillmaster.
The base pay of the fireman in this grade shall be
Nine Hundred Eighty -Two and No/100 ($982.00) Dollars
per month.
11(7) Grade VII. There shall be one (1) posi-
tion in Grade VII, said position being assistant
fire chief. The base pay of the fireman in this
grade shall be One Thousand One Hundred Twenty -Five
and No/100 ($1,125.00) Dollars per month."
Section 3.
All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict with
the provisions of this ordinance are hereby repealed to the ex-
tent of such conflict.
Section 4.
If any section, subsection, sentence, clause or phrase
of this ordinance or the application of same to a particular set
of persons or circumstances shall, for any reason, be found to
be invalid, such invalidity shall in no wise affect the remain-
ing portions of this ordinance, and to such end the various
portions and provisions of this ordinance are declared to be
severable.
