ORDINANCE NO. 73-38
ENTITLED AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 12-19
OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF BEAUMONT, TEXAS,
BY INCREASING THE NUMBER OF POSITIONS IN GRADE
III OF THE POLICE DEPARTMENT; REPEALING ALL
CONFLICTING ORDINANCES; AND PROVIDING FOR
SEVERABILITY.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE. CITY OF BEAUMONT, TEXAS:
Section 1.
That Section 12-19 of the.Code of Ordinances of Beaumont,
Texas, is hereby amended to read as follows:
"Sec. 12-19.
Grades and classifications in
poice epartment.
"All positions in the police department of
the City of Beaumont, Texas, are hereby classified
into the following grades, each grade having duties
of substantially similar authority, importance and
responsibility:.
"(1) Grade I. There shall be one hundred
eighteen (TI$T —positions in Grade .I, said positions
to include patrolmen. The base pay of every
officer in this grade with less than six (6)
months service shall be Six Hundred Thirty -Nine and-
No/100 ($639.00) Dollars per month; and the base pay
of every officer in this grade with more than six
(6) months service but not more than eighteen (18)
months service shall,be Six,Hundred Seventy -One
and No/100 ($671.00) Dollars per month; and the base
pay of every officer in -this grade with more than
eighteen (18) months service shall be Seven Hundred
Five and No/100 ($705.00) Dollars per month.
"(2) Grade II. There shall be forty-nine
(49) position'i n Grade II, said positions to
include sergeants. The base pay of every officer
in this grade shall be Seven Hundred Seventy -Seven
and No/100 ($777.00) Dollars per month.
11(3) Grade III. There shall be nine (9)
positions in Grade III, said positions to include
police lieutenants. The base pay of every officer
in this grade shall be Eight Hundred Fifty -Seven
and No/100 ($-857.00) Dollars per month.
11(4) Grade IV. There shall be eight (8)
positions in Gr e IV, said positions to include
police captains. The base pay of every officer in
this grade shall be Nine Hundred Forty -Five and
No/100 ($945.00) Dollars per month.

11(5) Grade V. There shall be two (2)
positions in Grade V, said positions to include
police majors. 'The base pay of every officer
in this grade shall be One Thousand Forty -Two
and No/100 ($1,042.00) Dollars per month.
"(6) Grade. VI. There shall be one (1)
position inGr�I, said position being
assistant chief of police. The base pay of the
officer.in this grade shall be One Thousand Two
Hundred Six and .No/100 ($1,206.00) Dollars per
month."
Section 2.
All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict with
the provisions of this ordinance are hereby repealed to the
extent of such conflict.
Section 3.
If any section, subsection, sentence, clause or phrase of
this ordinance or the application of same to a particular set
of persons or circumstances shall, for any reason, be found to
be invalid, such invalidity shall in no wise affect the remain-
ing portions of this ordinance, and to such end the various
portions and provisions of this. -ordinance are declared to be

severable.;
