ENTITLED AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTIONS 12-19
AND 12.-20 OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF BEAUMONT,
TEXAS, BY INCREASING THE BASE PAY OF CERTAIN -
GRADES AND BE INCREASING AND DECREASING THE NUM-
BER OF POSITIONS IN CERTAIN GRADES IN_.THE.POLICE
DEPARTMENT AND THE FIRE DEPARTMENT OF THE CITY;
AND PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF BEAUMONT, TEXAS:
Section 1.
That Section 12.-19 of the Code of Ordinances of Beaumont,
Texas, by and the same is hereby amended so that said Section 12.-19
shall read as follows:
TtSec. 12.-19. Grades and classification in police
department.
"All positions in the police department of the City
of Beaumont, Texas, are hereby classified into the
following -grades, each grade having duties -of sub-_
stantially similar authority, importance, and respon-
sibility:
"(1) Grade I. There shall be ninety-five (95)
positions in Grade I, said positions to include
patrolmen and technicians in indentification bureau.
The base pay of all officers in this grade shall be
four hundred and fifty. -five dollars ($455.00) per
month.
11(2) Grade II. There shall be thirty-seven (37)
positions in Grade II, said positions to include
sergeants, detectives, dispatchers, and assistant
superintendent of identification bureau. The base
pay of all officers in this grade shall be five
hundred and five dollars ($505.00) per month.
TT(3) Grade III. There shall be six:=(6) positions
in Grade III, said positions to include l:ieiatena� ts,
juvenile officer, and superintendent of identifica-
tion bureau. The base pay of all officers.in this
grade shall be five hundred forty-eight dollars per
month. (548.00)
TT(4) Grade IV. There shall be five (5) positions
in Grade IV, said positions to include captains.
The base pay of all officers in this grade shall be
five hundred ninety --eight dollars ($598.00) per month.

"(7) Grade VII. There shall be one (1) position
in Grade VII, said position being assistant chief.
The base pay of the fireman in this grade shall be
eighthundred two dollars ($802..00) per month.
Section 3.
That if any section, subsection, sentence, clause or
phrase of this ordinance and the application of same to a parti-
cular-set
arti--cular set of persons or circumstances shall, for any reason, be
found to be invalid, such invalidity shall in no wise affect the
remaining portions of this ordinance, and to such end various
portions and provisions of this ordinance are declared to be
severable.
