ENTITLED AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 12-19
OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCESOF BEAUMONT, TEXAS,
BY DECREASING THE NUMBER OF POSITIONS IN
GRADE I OF THE POLICE DEPARTMENT OF THE CITY
FROM ONE HUNDRED THREE (103) POSITIONS TO
ONE HUNDRED ONE (101) POSITIONS, AND BY
INCREASING THE NUMBER OF POSITIONS IN GRADE
II OF THE POLICE DEPARTMENT OF THE CITY FROM
THIRTY-SEVEN (37) POSITIONS TO THIRTY-NINE
(39) POSITIONS; REPEALING ALL CONFLICTING
ORDINANCES; AND PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF BEAUMONT, TEXAS:
Section 1.
That Section 12-19 of the Code of Ordinances of
Beaumont, Texas, is hereby amended to read as follows:
"Sec. 12-19. Grade and classifications in
police epartment.
"All positions in the police department of the
City of Beaumont, Texas, are hereby classified
into the following grades, each grade having
duties of substantially similar authority,
importance and responsibility:
"(1) Grade I. There shall be.one hundred one
(101) pow ns in Grade I, said positions to
include patrolmen. The base pay of every officer
in this grade shall be five hundred fifty ($550.00)
dollars per month.
"(2) Grade II. There shall be thirty-nine (39)
positions Grade II, said positions to include
sergeants and detectives. The base pay of every
officer in this grade shall be six hundred two
($602.00) dollars per month.
11(3) Grade III. There shall be six (6) positions
in Gra e III, said positions to include lieutenants.
The base pay of every officer in this grade shall
be six hundred forty-seven ($647.00) dollars per
month.
"(4) Grade IV. There shall be five (5) positions
in.Gra ec�IV,_.said positions to include captains.
The base pay of every officer in this grade shall
be six hundred ninety-eight ($698.00) dollars per
month.
"(5) Grade V. There shall be two (2) positions
in Gra-de V, said positions to include inspectors.
The base pay of every officer in this grade shall
be eight hundred twenty-nine ($829.00) dollars per
month.
11(6) Grade VI. There shall be one (1) position
in GraTe VI, said position being assistant chief
of police. The base pay of the officer in this
grade shall be nine hundred fifty ($950.00)
dollars per month."
Section 3.
All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict
with the provisions of this ordinance are hereby repealed
to the extent of such conflict.
If any section, subsection, sentence, clause or
phrase of this ordinance or the application of same to a
particular set of persons or circumstances shall, for any
reason be found to be invalid, such invalidity shall in no
wise affect the remaining portions of this ordinance, and to
such end the various portions and provisions of this ordinance
are declared to be severable.
