AN ORDINANCE
PROVIDING FOR THE LEVYING, ASSESSING AND COLLECTING OF
AD VALOREM AND OTHER TAXES FOR THE YEAR 1937 FOR THE PURPOSE
OF PROVIDING A SINKING FUND TO MEET THE PAT91NT OF ALL BONDED
INDEBTEDNESS OF THE" CITY OF BEAUMONT, AND THE PAYIaN- T OF ACCRU-
ING INTEREST THEREON; PROVIDING FOR THE SUPPORT AND MAINTENANCE
OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT PUBLIC FREE SCHOOLS; TO PAY THE EXPENSE
OF THE DEPARTMENTS OF THE CITY` GOVERNM NT, AS NAMED IN SAID
ORDINANCE, AND THE G114 RAL K0ENSE OF THE CITY GOVERNMENT; AND
APPORTIONING THE TAXES TO BE LEVIED TO SUCH DEPARTiv7ENTS AND PUR-
POSES AS SET FORTH IN SAID ORDINANCE; PROVIDING FOR THE PAYMENT
OF OCCUPATION TAX; AND DECLARING AN EMERGINCY.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF BEAUMONT, TEXAS
Section I
That there shall be and is hereby levied and shall be
assessed and collected,, for the year 1937, an ad valorem tax
of Two and 1,2/100 Dollars (A2.1,2) on each one hundred dollars
worth of property in the City of Beaumont located within the
territory comprising the old city limits existing prior to the
adoption of the present City Charter and comprising the Beaumont
Independent School District in the City of Beaumont, made taxable
by law, which said taxes when collected shall be, according to
Section 16 of the Charter of the City of Beaumont, apportioned
among the funds and departments of the City Government, of the
City of Beaumont, and for the purposes as hereinafter set forth,
as follows, to -wit:
For the General Fund $ .85

For the support and maintenance of
Public Library .07
For the purpose of paying the accruing
interest and to provide a sinking fund -
for the payment of the entire bonded
indebtedness of the City of Beaumont for

Section 3
That there shall be and is hereby levied and shall be
assessed and collected, for the year 1937, a school maintenance
tax of 50¢ on each $100.00 worth of property i,nAhe territory
taken into the City of Beaumont for school purposes only, by
the -City Commission of the City of Beaumont, by ordinance passed
on the 27th day of November, A. D..1923, and there shall be end is
hereby levied and shall be assessed and collected, for the year
1937, a tax of 244 on each A100.00 worth of said property to
take care of the interest and sinking fund on the school bonded
indebtedness of the City of Beaumont. Said tax is hereby levied
and shall be assessed and collected for said year on all property
in the territory taken in by the Ctty of Beaumont for school pur-
poses only, by an ordinance passed by the City Commission of said
City, on the 27th day of November, A.D. 1923, said territory being
known as a portion of what is commonly called the Wench School
District.
Section 4
That there shall be and is hereby levied and there shall
be collected on all occupations and callings on which an occupa-
tion tax is levied by the State of Texas, a sum equal to one-half
of the amount so levied by the State of Texas, on each respective
occupation or calling in the City of Beaumont.
Section 5
There being no Ordinance in effect levying the taxes for
the year 1937, and the taxes for said year will soon become due
and payable, an immediate public emergency exists, necessitating
the suspension of the rule requiring ordinances to be read on
three separate days before passage, wherefore, s^id rule is hereby
suspended and it is enacted that this Ordinance shall be in full
force and effect from and after its passage and publication.
Passed this the 21st. day of September, A. D. 19372 by the
affirmative vote of all members of the City Commission.

Section 1
That the tax of Seventy-four Cents ($.7,/+).on each one hundred
dollars valuation of all taxable property within the limits of the
City of Beaumont heretofore levied for interest and sinking fund
accounts, other than school bond accounts, and ordered collected
by an Ordinance passed by the City Commission of the City of Beaumont
on the 21st day of September, 1937, be and the s-nme is hereby appor-
tioned among the various interest and sinking funds as follows:
To the interest and sinking fund of Airport Bonds #1, dated
July 1, 1929 Nine Mills (":.0090).
To the interest and sinking fund of City Hall Bonds #1,
dated December 1, 1902 - Three Mills ("x.0030).

Section 2
That the tax of Twenty --;four Cents ($.24) on each one hundred
dollars valuation of all taxable property within the old city limits
of the City of Beaumont, as such limits existed at the time of the
adoption of the present City Charter, and that portion taken in in
1923 for school purposes only, heretofore levied for interest and
sinking fund accounts collected by an ordinance passed on the .21st
day of September, 1`,. D. 1937, be and the same is hereby apporti6ned
among the various school bond -interest. -and sinking funds as follows:

Section 3
That the City Tax Assessor and Collector is hereby instructed
to pro -rate the said sums so assessed according to the provisions
of this Ordinance, and to so present his statement and report to
the Director of Finance that said Officer may be able to place all
collections made under said tax to the credit of the proper fund,
and that the same may not be diverted or used for any other purpose.
Section 4
The fact that no apportionment has been made of the
assessments levied to provide for the interest and sinking fund
for the bonded in of the City of Beaumont, creates an
imperative public emergency necessitating the suspension of the
rule requiring ordinances to be read on three separate meetings
before their passage, wherefore, said rule is suspended and this
ordinance shall take effect and be in force from and after its
passage and publication.
Passed this the 21st day of September, jl. D. 1937, by the
affirmative vote of all members of the City Commission.

Section -2
There -being no ordinance in - effect making appropriations
for the fiscal year 1937-38, as. required by the Charter of -the
City of Beaumont, and it being necessary that expenditures be
authbrized in accordance with the -annual budget, creates an imme-
diate public emergency necessitating"the suspension of.the rule
requiring ordinances to.be read on three several days before
passage,cwherefore, said rule is hereby suspended and it is enacted
that this. Ordinance shall be in full force and .effect from and after
its passage and publication.
Passed this the :21st day of September, D. -1937, by the
affirmative vote of -Fall members of- the City Commission.
