HomeMy WebLinkAboutORD 33-MAN ORDINANCE ORDERING THE GENERAL IMIUNICIPAL JILECTION FOR THE CITY OF BEAUMONT FOR THE YEAR 1940, AS PROVIDED BY THE CHARTER OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT, ON THE DATE AND AT THE PLACES SET FORTH IN SAID ORDINANCE FOR THE PURPOSE OF ELECTING A MAYOR AND NINE (9) COUNCILMEN AS DESIGNS>.TED IN SAID ORDINANCE; NAMING THE PLACES AT VHICH SAID ELECTION Sar'LL BE HELD BND DESIGN ITING THE PLACES WHERE THE VOTERS SHALL VOTE; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT: Section 1 That in accordance with Section 26, Sub -section 4, of the Charter of the City of Beaumont and other provisions of said Charter, and the laws of the State of Texas relating thereto, there shall be held in the City of Beaumont on the first Tuesday in April, 1940, the same being the 2nd day of April, A. D. 1940, a regular municipal election for said City for the purpose of electing a Mayor; three (3) Councilmen for the First Ward; three (3) Councilmen for the Second Ward; and three ( 3) Councilmen for the Third Ward. Section 2 That said election shall be held in the Citir of Beaumont in the following places, to wit: In the First Ward at the Junker School Building, lm,verill School Building and Central Fire Station. In the Second Ward at the Beaumont High School Building and the City Hall. In the Third Ward at the Sabine Pass Fire Station, David Crockett Junior High School Building, and South Park Elementary School Building. That all voters residing in County voting precincts: numbers 1 and 2 in the City shall vote at Junker School Building; that all voters residing in County voting precinct number 4 in the City and that part of County voting precinct number 47 lying within the city limits of the City of Beaumont shall vote at Averill School Building,; that all voters residing in County voting precincts numbers 3, 6 and 7 in the City shall vote at the Central Fire Station; that all voters residing in County voting precinct number 5 in the City shall vote at Beaumont High School Building; that all voters residing in County voting precincts numbers 8 and 9 in the City shall vote at the City Hall; that all voters residing in County voting precincts numbers 10, 13 and 14 in the City shall vote at Sabine Pass Fire Station; that all voters residing in County voting precincts numbers 11 and 12 in the City shall vote at David Crockett Junior High School Building; and that all voters residing in County voting precincts numbers 15, 16 and 17 in the City shall vote at the South Park Elementary School Building. Section 3 The following named persons are appointed presiding judges for their respective voting boxes in said wards,' ith the authority to select and appoint their own clerkw: At the Junker School Building At the Averill School Building At the Beaumont High School Building At the Central Fire Station At _the City Hall At the Sabine Pass Fire Station At the David. Wherry That said election shall be held under, and the qualifica- tions of those voting thereat shall be controlled by the provisions of the State Laws governing elections. Section 5 That a copy of this ordinance signed by the Mayor of the City of Beaumont, and attested by the City Clerk thereof shall serve as proper and sufficient notice of sai.d election, and the Mayor is hereby directed to cause a copy of this ordinance, signed by himself and attested by the City Clerk, to be posted at each of the places herein designated for holding said election at least thirty (30) days prior to the date of holding said election. Section b That an ordinance has not yet been passed providing for and ordering a general municipal election for the year 1940, and that such ordinance is necessary, thereby creating an imperative public emergency necessitating the suspension of the rule requiring ordinances to be read on three separate days before their passage, wherefore, said rule is hereby suspended and this ordinance shall take effect from and after its passage and the signature of the Mayor. Passed by the affirmative vote of all members of the City Commission, this the 27th day of February, A. D. 1940.
