PROVIDING FOR THE LEVYING, ASSESSING AND COLLECTING OF
AD VALOREH AND OTHER TAXES FOR THE YEAR 1935 FOR THE PURPOSE
OF PROVIDING A SINKING FUND TO MEET THE PAYMENT OF ALL BONDED
INDEBTEDNESS OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT, AND THE PAYMENT OF ACCRU-
ING INTEREST THEREON; PROVIDING FOR THE SUPPORT AND 3,riAINTENANCE
OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT PUBLIC FREE 'SCHOOLS; TO PAY THE EXPENSE
OF THE DEPARTivIENTS OF THE CITY GOVERNMENT, AS NAMED IN SAID
ORDINANCE, AND THE GENERAL EXPENSE OF THE. CITY GOVERNMENT; AND
APPORTIONING THE TAXES TO BE LEVIED TO SUCH DEPARTMENTS AND
PURPOSES AS SET FORTH IN S :ID ORDINANCE; PROVIDING FOR THE
PAYMENT OF OCCUPATION TAX; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COYd-IISSION OF THE CITY
OF BEAUMONT, TEXAS
Section 1
That there shall be and is hereby levied and shall be
assessed and collected, for the ear 1935, an ad valorem tax
of Two and 40/100 Dollars ($2.40 on each one hundred dollars
worth of property in the City of Beaumont located within the
territory comprising the old city limits existing prior to the
adoption of the present City Charter and comprising the Beaumont
Independent School District in the City of -Beaumont, made taxable
by law, which said taxes when collected shall be, according to
Section 16 of the Charter of the City of Beaumont, apportioned
among the funds and departments of the City Government, of the
City of Beaumont, and for the purposes as hereinafter set forth,
as follows, to-wit-

Section 2
That there shall be and is hereby levied and shall be
assessed and collected, for the ear 1935, an ad valorem tax
of One and 68/100 Dollars (:1.68} on each one hundred dollars
worth of property located within and comprising that portion
of the City of Beaumont lying outside of the old city limits
described in Section 1, hereof, in the City of Beaumont made
taxable by-law, which said taxes when collected shall be
according to Section 16", of the Charter of the City of Bc.auncnt
apportioned among the funds and departments of the City Govern-
ment of the City of Beaumont, and for the purposes hereinafter
set forth, as follows, to -wit,

Section 3
That there shall be and is hereby levied and shall be
assessed and collected, for the year 1935, a. school maintenance
tax of 48¢ on each $100.00 worth of property in the territory
taken into the City of Beaumont for school purposes only, by
the City Commission of the City of Beaumont, by ordinance passed
on the 27th day of November, A.D. 1923, and there shall be and is
hereby levied and shall be assessed and collected, for the year
1935, a tax of 24¢ on each $100.00 worth of said property to
take care of the interest and sinking fund on the school bonded
indebtedness of the City of Beaumont. Said tax is hereby levied
and shall be assessed and collected for said year on all property
in the territory taken in by the City of Beaumont for school pur-
poses only, by an ordinance passed by the City Commission of said
City, on the 27th day of November, A.D. 1923, said territory being
knotim as a portion of what is commonly called the French School
District.
Section 4
That there shall be and is hereby levied and there shall
be collected on all occupations and callings on which an occupa-
tion tax is levied by the State of Texas, a sum equal to one-half
of the amount so levied by the State of Texas, on each respective
occupation or calling in the City of Beaumont.
Section 5
There being no Ordinance in effect levying the taxes for
the year 1935, and the taxes for said year will soon become due
and payable, an immediate public emergency exists, necessitating
the suspension of the rule requiring ordinances to be read on
three separate days before passage, Wherefore, said rule is hereby
suspended and it is enacted that this Ordinance shall be in full
force and effect from and after its passage and publication.

HUNDRED DOLLARS VALUATION OF ALL TAXABLE PROPERTY WITHIN THE LIMITS
OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT, TEXAS, AND A TAX OF TWENTY-FOUR CENTS ($.24)
ON EACH ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS VALUATION OF ALL TAXABLE PROPERTY WITHIN
THE OLD CITY LIMITS OF THE CITY -OF BEAUMONT, TEXAS, AS SUCH LIMITS
EXISTED AT THE TIME OF THE ADOPTION ,OF THE PRESENT CITY CHARTER AND
THAT PORTION TAKEN IN IN 1923 FOR SCHOOL PURPOSES ONLY, LEVIED AND
ORDERED COLLECTED W AN ORDINANCEPASSED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF BEAUMONT ON THE 24th DAY OF SEPTEMBER, A. D. 1935, FOR THE

on the 24th day of September, 1935, be and the same is hereby appor-

That the tax of Twenty-four. Cents ($.24) on each one hundred
dollars valuation of all taxable property within the old city limits
of the City of Beaumont, as such limits existed at the time of the
adoption of the present City -Charter, and that portion taken in in
1923 for school purposes only, heretofore levied for interest and
sinking fund accounts collected by an -ordinance passed on the 24th
day of September, A.D. 1935, be and the same is hereby apportioned
among the various school bond interest and sinking funds as follows.

#2, dated December 1, 1902 - Four Mills ($.0040).
To the interest and sinking fund of School House Buildin Bonds
#6, dated November 1, 1916 - Two Cents and Eight Mills ($.0280.

Section 3
That the City Tax Lssessor and Collector is hereby instructed
to pro -rate the said sums so assessed according to the provisions of
this Ordinance, and to so present his statement and report to the
Director of Finance that said Officer may be able to place all
collections made under said tax to the credit of the proper fund
and that the same may not be diverted or used for any other purpose.
Section 4
The fact that no apportionment has been made of the assessments
levied to provide for the interest and sinking fund for the bonded
indebtedness of the City of Beaumont, creates an imperative public
emergency necessitating the suspension of the rule requiring ordi-
nances to be read on three separate meetings before their passage.,
wherefore, said rule is suspended and this ordinance shall take
effect and be in force from and after its passage and publication.

Section 2
There being no ordinance in effect making appropriations
for the fiscal year 1935-1936, as required by the Charter of the
City of Beaumont, and it being necessary that expenditures .be
authorized in accordance with the annual budget, creates an imme-
diate public emergency necessitating the suspension of the rule
requiring ordinances to be read on three several days before
pas sage, wherefore, said rule is hereby suspended and it is enacted
that this Ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after
its passage and publication.
