GENERAL BUSINESS
1. Consider amending Section 22.05.211. of the Code of Ordinances related to garbage and
trash rates.
The Code of Ordinances currently has a monthly garbage and trash collection fee of $17.00.
There is also a litter removal fee of $0.50 per unit per month for single-family residential units
and $0.25 per unit per month for multifamily dwellings of two or more units.
The Administration proposes that the monthly garbage and trash collection fee of $17.00 be
increased to $18.25 and the litter removal fees be eliminated. The net increase to a
residential customer would be $0.75 per month or $9.00 per year. The last increase
approved by the City Council was in October of 2015.
The proposed changes would provide an estimated $290,000 in additional annual revenue
that will be used for trash removal services throughout thecity and along Interstate 10 and
Highway 69 through the city limits of Beaumont.
The above changes simplify the Code of Ordinances and will allow the Administration to
move forward with trash removal along Interstate 10 and Highway 69 through the city limits
of Beaumont as discussed in a work session with the City Council. In the annual operating
budget, funds are transferred each year from the Solid Waste Fund to the General Fund as
allowed by the City Charter. The cost of mowing along Interstate 10 and Highway 69 will be
paid for from the annual transfer.
