Guiding PhilosophX Having the equipment needed to perform approved protocols provides us the capability to deliver services. To be reasonably sure that equipment will be functioning properly when it's really needed, and so that we carry all of the equipment that we're approved to work with, we inventory and check the operation of our medical equipment and supplies regularly. II. Purpose The purpose of this policy is to insure the preparedness of the department's medical equipment. III. Goals The goals of this policy are to: A. Detail the inventory, equipment check, and replenishment guidelines for medical bags and associated equipment. B. Detail the inventory and replenishment guidelines for the station stock. IV. Definitions A. AED — automatic external defibrillator. B. Medical Bae Inventory List — a listing of the type and quantities of medical supplies and equipment that are to be maintained in the med bag and on the apparatus. C. Medical Bae Inventory Form — a daily form completed to ensure the proper type and quantities of supplies and equipment are carried in the medical bag and on the apparatus. D. Station Medical Stock List — a weekly form used to ensure the proper station inventory and quantities of medical supplies. V. Medical Eauigment Inventory & Maintenance Guidelines A. Medical Bag 1. Will beinventoried dai y and according to the items and quantities listed on the Medical Bag Inventory List. a. Oxygen regulator pressure will be checked and either after each use or when changing out bottles. b. Glucometer will be checked daily for proper coding and weekl (on Thursday's) with the provided solution. i. Proper ranges for the solution reading are located on the test strip vial. ii. Suction Machine will be checked dai y to insure proper operation and that all associated equipment is accounted for. i. Suction tubing ii. Yankauer tip iii. Canister The suction machine will be run for 15 minutes weekly to allow batteries to be recycled and properly charged. d. AED—Life Pack 12 i. Batteries will be changed daily. ii. User test will be performed daily. i. If the unit II4)ass4ii the user test, printed documentation may be discarded. ii. Should medical equipment fail to function properly, notify your chain of command to obtain a loaner unit. (Stations with more than one of a particular item or Fire Alarm are preferred to obtain a loaner unit.) 3. The Medical Bag Inventory Form will be completed in full and attached to a Firehouse Inventory module maintenance report dail 4. Items used from the medical bag will be replenished as soon as possible after patient care has been completed. B. Station Stock 1. The practice of stocking each station with medical supplies is to alleviate the emergent need for delivery of supplies. Every station will maintain a stock of items for replenishment of the medical bag in accordance with the Station Medical Stock List. 2. The station stock will be inventoried every Monday prior to ordering supplies based on the Station Medical Stock List. 3. Items will be ordered each week based on the Station Medical Stock List of quantities to maintain on hand. 4. Should the situation occur where the med bag and station stock of a particular item has been exhausted between order days, contact your district station for the missing items. 5. If the items are not available at the district station, contact Station 1 for the missing items. 6. If none of the items are available at Station 1 and a critical need arises, the Supply Officer or Logistics Program Manager should be contacted to fill critical shortages. SOG 603.02 - Medical Equipment Inventory & Maintenance Page 2 of 3 C. Expiration Dates 1. Scheduled check of medication expiration dates will be done on the first daf of every month. a. This includes medications from the station inventory and the medical bag. b. The Station Captain on -duty on this date is responsible for ensuring an email is sent to the Logistic Program Manager and copied to the Supply Office that lists all medications on hand and their associated expiration dates. 2. All medications that will be expiring within the month OR within 30 clays of the date on medication will need to be replaced.
