THE GROUND ROD MUST BE INSTALLED TO ITS MAXIMUM DEPTH AND A GROUNDING WIRE ATTACHED FROM THE APPARATUS FRAME TO THE GROUND ROD. Even with the truck frame grounded, there is no assurance that the grounding device will contain all the electrical current should an accidental electrical contact be made. This is why it is critical that no one be in contact with the apparatus while the boom is being moved in the vicinity of energized wires or equipment. Before personnel are allowed to mount aerial ladder, the turntable must be locked in position, the hydraulic system must be locked in position, and the ladder rungs must be locked in position. Ladder may be rotated with personnel on it only in emergency conditions and then VERY SLOWLY. Ladder will not be extended or retracted, raised, or lowered with personnel on it. When ladder is used as water tower, nozzle stream will be directed in line with ladder at all times except under emergency conditions. The pump operator shall utilize the step provided at the pump panel to prevent contact between the aerial and ground.
