GUIDELINES/PROCEDURES: 1. The Knox System Master Key shall be secured at all times in the lock-down device provided, when not in immediate use. 2. A release of the Knox master key will require that the requesting unit verbalize by radio the following information: A. Identification of unit requesting a Knox signal B. Address of the location where access is required. C. Upon completion, notification to Dispatch that the unit has competed the assignment at the location address, and that all keys have been secured. 3.The request should be made on the working channel, most of the time BFR 2 or BFR 3. This makes additional units aware that access is being made to the Knox. 4. Communications examples: Example 1: Signal request from a Unit " Engine 8, requesting a Knox signal for access to 4220 Dowlen " Example 2: Closing out the call" Engine 8, assignment completed at 4220 Dowlen, all keys secured" 5. Dispatchers, anytime the Knox box is activated, dispatch is to log a status code S to the event that will time stamp the time of Knox box activation. If the unit requesting the activation is not on an event, dispatch will create an event for the location with a class code of 150. Events are also to be created for Fire Prevention personnel requesting Knox box activation. Dispatchers, be aware that class code 150 puts any unit on the event out of service.
