HomeMy WebLinkAboutSOG 203.01Q Reviewed 5-2015 NV Cardiac Arrrestf. Goal The goal of this policy is to define the standard of care for any patient presenting with non-viable cardiac arrest. Il. Definitions A. Non -Viable Cardiac Arrest — Patients who present with one or more of the following: 1. Multi -casualty incidents, as per protocol 203.01V, START Triage. 2. Valid "DO NOT ATTEMPT RESUSCITATION" (DNAR) directives as per protocol 203.01R. 3. Post mortem lividity (pooling of blood). 4. Rigor mortis. 5. Major trauma incompatible with life (i.e. decapitation, severe burns, etc.). Ill. Protocol A. Resuscitative efforts should be withhold in non-viable cardiac arrest patients. B. If bystander CPR has started or uncertain about viability, start CPR and advise responding EMS unit. C. If resuscitative efforts are withheld: 1. Notify the responding EMS unit. 2. Request law enforcement and Justice of the Peace. 3, Secure scene until law enforcement arrives. D. Document your findings accurately.
