John Dollinger Jr. Inc. Records, 1890s-1995
DESCRIPTION
In August of 1902 John Dellinger, Jr., founded the Plaquemine Boiler and Sheet Metal Works in
Plaquemine, Louisiana. The plant catered to the repair of boilers and other equipment used in the sugar
refining industry located in the area. Then in 1907 the great depression struck the Louisiana region
prompting John Dellinger, Jr., to move his business to Beaumont, Texas, where he established in late
1906 a boiler shop. Business began to boom first with the oil refineries of the region followed by the
lumber and rice industries situated nearby. The company continued to expand and reached a zenith of
output in the 1980s. The Beaumont -based plant was finally sold and closed in 1995.
These records contain 32 boxes donated by John E. (led") Dellinger and are arranged in the following
record series order: 50th anniversary celebration activities in 1952, job photographs related to company
project files, minutes of the Board of Directors and stock holders, early photographs of products built for
the oil and natural gas industry, administrative records, company artifacts, employee public recognition
material, and miscellany items. The records offer a wealth of information about the steel fabrication
industry both regionally, nationally, and internationally, as well as what role it has played in fostering the
development of other key industries that have proven vital to the economy.
Some restrictions may apply after final processing of these records.
