Beebe Denison Crary Collection, 1871-1931
DESCRIPTION
Col. Beebe Denison Crary was born in Albany, New York, on July 17, 1819. He was a prominent
Beaumont citizen in the late 1800s. After living for number of years in New York, Michigan, Illinois, and
Nebraska, he became interested in the East Texas area in 1869. He first came to East Texas as a banking
representative, but became interested in the area's railroads and was involved with the construction the
Sabine and East Texas railroad and a number of other civic projects. He died in April of 1907.
This small collection consists primarily of books about Texas including Texas Almanacs from the years
1860, 1861, 1871, and 1873; books on the Texas legislature from 1873-1875; books on railroads in Texas
from 1874-1875; books on land in Texas from 1874-1875; and other books related to Texas, most of them
printed in the 1870s.
