Besides his profession, he had an interestin history. He was involved in many organizations, such as the Beaumont Heritage Society and the Tyrrell Historical Library Association. At one time he was president of the Texas Gulf Historical and Biographical Record. His grandfather, John H. Broocks, was also an attorney from Beaumont His practice was mostly made up of real estate. He practiced law in Beaumont and East Texas. Mr. Osborne's stepfather, William Seale, a businessman from Woodville, Texas, came to Beaumont to start his business here. He later married Osborne's widowed mother. Scope and Content The collection consist of three parts: Jackson Broocks Osborne, John H. Broocks, and William Seale. collections. Osborne's collection has 21 folders. Twelve (12) folders pertaining to Margaret W. Herrin's legal documents, two (2) folders of Jennie Marks' legal documents, one (1) folder of Abstract of Titles on Jefferson County - A. Brown Survey, one (1) folder of an affidavit of R. L. Watts (constable of San Augustine County), one (1) folder of a Prohibition Speech by Fredrick W. Lehmann, one (1) folder on the A. J. Houston amd M. L. Broocks contest, one (1) folder of post cards to Jackson Broocks Osborne and Mrs.Isham J. Osborne, one (1) folder of checks and receipts, and one (1) folder of personal items. John H. Broocks' collection has 89 folders. Twelve (12) folders for personal items, six (6) folders on political items, six (6) folders of letters to John H. Broocks - 1893-1938, one (1) folder of letters from John H. Broocks- 1918-1935, one (1) folder of land deeds to the Broocks, Greer, and Broocks law firm, two (2) folders on land deeds to the Broocks, Polk, and Broocks real estate firm, thirty six (36) folders of Abstract of Titles from Hardin County to San Augustine County, ten (10) folders of other land deeds, and fifteen (15) folders of John H. Broocks writings. William Scale's collection has 8 folders. One (I)folder of letters to William Seale: 1935-1951, one (1) folder of receipts: 1923-1949, three (3) folders of land deeds, one (1) folder on the A. William Survey (notes and letters): 1926-1927, one (1) folder of a mathematical book of L. J. Seale: 1814, and one (1) folder of poems. Processed by John Swearingen, June 1998
