Wiess Family Collection, 1918-1950s
DESCRIPTION
Simon Wiess, born in Poland in 1800, moved to Texas in 1833 after traveling extensively around the
world. After working in Nacogdoches until 1838, he settled in an area on the Neches River north of
Beaumont which came to be known as Wiess' Bluff after the success of a general store that Simon Wiess
ran there. He died in August of 1868. A number of members of the Wiess family became prominent
businessmen in the Beaumont area.
This small collection consists of a typed manuscript about the Wiess family history and newspaper
articles about the Wiess family.
