Dennis McCarthy Scrapbook, 1933-1934
DESCRIPTION
Dennis McCarthy was an artist, cartoonist, andjou realist who worked for a time with the Beaumont
Enterprise newpaper. He was born in the 1890s in San Francisco, California, was educated in Denver,
Colorado, and Chicago, Illinois, and worked for fifteen years with the Hearst enterprises in San Francisco
and New York City. He also worked for a time for Walt Disney Studios. In the 1930s and 1940s
McCarthy worked in Beaumont for the Beaumont Enterprise and Beaumont Journal. One of his features
profiled prominent Beaumont businessmen and included cartoons and biographical information. While
in Beaumont, he also taught classes at the Beaumont An Museum and was known for his watercolor
paintings of the area. Dennis McCarthy died in May of 1973 in Prescott, Arizona.
This collection consists of a scrapbook of approximately 135 of Dennis McCarthy's articles for the
Beaumont Enterprise profiling prominent Beaumont businessmen.
