Triplett-Milam Papers, 1879-1971
DESCRIPTION
Henry Franklin (H.F.) Triplett was a Texas Senator, educator, and author. H.F. Triplett was an educator
for most of his career, serving as superintendent of schools in Ennis, Texas from 1893 until 1903 and in
Beaumont from 1903 to 1919. He was also an author, publishing Civics: Texas and Federal in 1912 and
Neerolana in 1924. H.F. Triplett was also a politician. He was elected to the Texas Senate in the 39" and
40" legislatures as a Democrat from the 0 senatorial district. He served from January 13, 1925, until his
death on December 13, 1928. He was involved in Masonry and was the father of four children including
Lena Triplett Milam, a Beaumont resident who had a significant impact on music in the Beaumont area.
Lena Triplett Milam taught school in Beaumont and served as the Beaumont School District's Music
Supervisor from 1911 to 1955. She helped organize the Music Study Club, the Beaumont Music
Commission, and Music Week in Beaumont. She is considered to have had a large impact on the musical
arts in the area.
This collection consists of awards, a book (Neerolana), correspondence, certificates and diplomas,
speeches (handwritten and typed), and photographs related to both H.F. Triplett and his daughter Lena
Triplett Milam. Also included is a photograph of the first string classes held in Beaumont city schools in
1947.
