The Oil city works was one of the original industries that
developed as a result of the oil boom in Jefferson County, Texas,
in the early part of the twentieth century. This industrial
institution became a household word in the petrochemical industry
throughout the years and a vital asset to the city.
The collection consists of payroll ledgers dated from 1924-
1929; they contain the names of employees, hours worked per week
and rate of pay per week. These ledgers are in poor condition and
caution should be used while handling them.
