Henry Franklin Triplett Collection, 1918-1927
DESCRIPTION
Henry Franklin (H.F.) Triplett was a Texas Senator, educator, and author. He was born on January 5,
1854, in Loudoun County, Virginia. In 1870, at the age of sixteen, H.F. Triplett moved with his family to
Pettis County, Missouri. In 1880 he graduated from the State Normal School in Warrensburg, Missouri.
Over the years he studied at a number of other institutions including the Missouri School of Mines and
Metallurgy, the Illinois Medical College, and Fort Worth University. It was at Fon Worth University that
he received a B.S. in 1900 and an M.S. in 1903.
H.F. Triplett was an educator for most of his career and served as superintendent of schools in Ennis,
Texas from 1893 until 1903 and in Beaumont from 1903 until 1919. During his time as superintendent of
Beaumont schools new school buildings were constructed for Pennsylvania Avenue School, George
O'Brien Millard School, Averill School, and Fletcher School. He was also an author, publishing Civics:
Texas and Federal in 1912 and Nearolana in 1924. Nearolana was published under the pseudonym
"Doctor Frank."
H.F. Triplett was elected to the Texas Senate in the 39" and 40" legislatures as a Democrat from the 4"
senatorial district. He served from January 13, 1925 until his death on December 13, 1928. He was also
involved in Masonry and was the father of four children including Lena Triplett Milam, a Beaumont
resident who had a significant impact on music in the Beaumont area.
This collection consists of speeches, both handwritten and typed, given to fraternal organizations during
the years 1918 to 1927.
