Judge Daniel Walker Papers, 1903-1930s
DESCRIPTION
Daniel Walker was born near Jacksonville, Texas, in 1876. He received a BS degree from the Alexander
Collegiate Institute (Lon Morris College) in 1896. He taught school and studied law, being admitted to
the bar in Rusk, Texas, in 1900. He practiced law in Timpson, Texas, and was city attorney there from
1902 to 1905. He also practiced law in Center and moved to Beaumont in 1918 when he was elected to
be associate justice of the ninth court of civil appeals in 1918. He was promoted to chief justice of the
ninth court in 1932 and passed away in 1944.
This small collection contains primarily correspondence of Judge Daniel Walker as well as
correspondence of some of his close family, including his wife, May Walker. Also included are some
legal documents, political tracts, and materials related to the YMCA.
