James S. Edwards was a prominent Beaumont businessman from
1898 until his death in 1947. Edwards was born in Ennis, Texas,
and came to Beaumont in 1898. Eventually, Edwards became
General Manager for the Kansas City and Southern Railroads.
Edwards soon entered the Real Estate business and in 1908 formed
J. S. Edwards and Company. James S. Edwards was one of five
charter members of the Beaumont Rotary club.
The James S. Edwards papers consist of 18 folders, containing
speeches, poetry, newspaper clippings, correspondence, and
miscellaneous material. Edwards made several public presentations,
and his speeches provide the researcher insight into politics
and issues of his day.
