DESCRIPTION
Mrs. Eloise Milam was described by her friends as having a
golden voice, boundless energy, sparkling personality, and a
sincere love for teenage girls who gave unselfishly of her time
and talents. During the World War II years she did her part for
the war effort with her Melody Maids, bringing entertainment to
the armed forces by singing at military installations and
veterans' hospitals all over the world. Mrs. Milam is the only
woman Texas Ranger (honorary). In 1961 she was given the
Distinguished Service Award by the American Legion Post #33 and
was named "Grandmother of the Year" in 1969. This collection
consists of one brochure entitled Cultural Activities Committee,
three newspaper clippings (not related to the collection), one
song book entitled "Melody Texas", six Melody Maids program books,
two docent training programs for the McFaddin—Ward House, a cast
entitled "Beaumont 1837-1887", and fourteen xeroxed photographs of
early Beaumont.
