Millions of dollars in federal war contracts flowed into Beaumont during the war, increasing employment at the shipyards to 8,500. The Pennship Log was a hi -monthly publication edited by Ruth G. Scurlock. Workers found articles concerning the activities of fellow employees, particularly those who joined the service. Early issues dealt extensively with the introduction of women workers in traditionally male job classifications. This collection contains three bound volumes dated from December, 1992, to January, 1996. The paper inundated workers with patriotic rhetoric and slogans, driving them to increase production and work efficiency. Unfortunately, the paper offered little information on production goals, but there are several stories on the launching of ships. No restrictions apply.
