DESCRIPTION
Mr. Sohn Daniel Martin was born October 17, 1909, in
Westville, Texas. He became Engineer for the City of Beaumont in
1930 and served in that capacity until 1971 when he was named
Public Program Coordinator; Mr. Martin remained in that position
until his death in 1974. In the forty-five years of service with
the city, Mr. Martin satisfactorily completed courses in
"Techniques of Effective Supervision," conducted at Southern
Methodist University, 1961, Certificate of Achievements in "Human
Engineering", Southern Methodist University, 1962, and "The Water
Utility Management Institute", University of Texas, Austin,
Texas, in June of 1962.
In his long tour of service with the City of Beaumont, Mr.
Martin compiled a vast amount of information concerning city
activities. The contents of this collection were stored in the
vertical files of the Tyrrell Historical Public Library prior to
being placed in the archives. The collection consists of newspaper
clippings, brochures, small manuscripts concerning the city's early
history, the Beaumont Chamber of Commerce, and the Tyrrell
Historical Public Library. The collection consists of sixteen
folders stored in chronological order.
