DESCRIPTION
The Alma Griffin Papers include a tremendous variety of
genealogical information. This collection predominantly emphasizes
families that emigrated to the British North American southern
colonies from Western Europe during the 17th and 18th centuries.
Alma Griffin's intuitiveness in the process of acquiring materials
will aide fellow genealogists in researching their family heritage.
Many years were devoted to comprising correspondence, research and
record gathering.
The focus of this collection is on relatives, allied
families, and friends of Alma Griffin. The inventory includes a
list of over 200 surnames investigated by Alma Griffin.
Families of considerable interest within this collection are
Doughty, Griffin, and Hurst.
This collection incorporates 3 cubic feet of material,
arranged in eight series, divided into 176 folders. Correspondence
is compiled chronologically (1952-1981). State, family, and
general genealogical records are organized in alphabetical order by
state, surname, and subject respectively. Indiscriminate notes,
newspaper clippings, pamphlets and publications, photographs and
negatives, and ephemera make up a relatively small portion of the
collection. An extensive collection of wills and other records are
included within the research materials.
