This collection is from Florence Prutzman's scrapbook. A native of
Princeton, Illinois, she lived in Beaumont from 1900 to her death
on March 26, 1967. From 1914 to 1919 she lived with her mother and
father at their home at 695 Harriot (corner of Harriot and
Virginia) in Beaumont. Florence's father, George Cooley Prutzman,
was descended from pioneers of this country who came well before
the days of the revolution. Among distinguished persons to whom he
was related were George Washington, General Custer, and
President Eisenhower.
Florence married Butler S. Stanley and they produced two children,
both of them were boys. There is a Prutzman family tree in this
collection. The collection contains pictures taken at the High
Island beach in 1915. There is a picture of the Sea View Hotel,
which burned to the ground later. When the family car broke down
at the beach, it was pulled by horses to a repair shop in Winnie,
Texas.
This collection has playbills from the Kyle Opera House. There is
a 1929 Junior Journal published weekly as part of the Beaumont
Journal. There is a weekly bulletin of the First Church for
1915.
In the Florence Prutzman collection you will find telegrams,
programs, newspaper clippings, a copy of the Junior Journal
published in 1929, and a report from Beaumont High School. There
are also several photographs and old commencement exercises.
