DESCRIPTION
In 1932, Larry Jean Fisher and Burton Holton conceived and
began to organize the Wing—Over Club of Beaumont. In 1933,
several local pilots met at the La Salle Hotel in Beaumont for
the official formation of the club. Members were licensed pilots
who could successfully perform the aerobatic "wing—over"
maneuver. The club sponsored many programs and activities
designed to increase public awareness and support of aviation,
including Beaumont's first air show, courses in aviation, a radio
program on aviation, and social events.
The scrapbooks represent a diverse collection of
publications, photographs, and newspaper clippings. Scrapbook
2 is a guest log of pilots from all over the country who flew
into Beaumont to participate in club activities. The researcher
should find the material in Scrapbook 1 of particular interest,
since it contains the club's newsletter and annual
reports. A photographic album and comprehensive collection of
newspaper clippings comprise the remaining material.
No restrictions apply.
