DESCRIPTION
The first Desk and Derrick Club formed in New Orleans in
1999. Two years later, the Association of Desk and Derrick Clubs
of North America exploded with 95 clubs and 5,500 members. In
1952, 21 women, representing 10 oil and allied companies in the
Sabine area met to form the Beaumont Desk and Derrick Club. The
group met at the Hotel Beaumont and received their charter on
March 22. The Club's objective was to promote a clearer
understanding of the petroleum industry through educational
programs. The Club also sought to "provide acquaintance and
entertainment for the membership."
The Desk and Derrick Club produced this scrapbook in its
first year of existence. The collection includes newspaper
clippings of the Club's organizational meetings, and original
activities. Photographs represent more than half of the
collection's material and cover Club meetings and activities.
Folder 1 contains ephemera, including the Club's charter and by—
laws and the President's Report for 1965.
