Milam married Allen Barnes Milam and eventually raised three
children. She taught school in Beaumont and served as the
Beaumont School District's Music Supervisor from 1911 to
1955. Lena Milam had a profound impact on the development
of the musical arts in Beaumont. Along with the Barnes

Music Commission, and helped organize Music Week in
Beaumont. Lena Milam was well loved by the citizens of
Beaumont, who knew her as "Aunt Lena."
