DESCRIPTION
The City Council of the Beaumont Parent -Teachers Association
produced this scrapbook during the administration of President A.W.
Lightfoot. Raised in Silsbee, Mrs. Lightfoot taught Music and Speech
and completed her second term as President of the PTA in 1947. At
the same time, she served as an officer in numerous other
organizations and as a member of the Texas Congress of Parents and
Teachers. Under her leadership, the Beaumont PTA organized the first
pre-school unit and increased the total number of locals in
membership with the Beaumont Council to 20.
This collection describes an organization which took an active
interest in Beaumont's social and political development. Newspaper
clippings, annual reports, by-laws, Fourth District Conference
materials, photographs, programs, and committee reports comprise
the contents of one scrapbook and one folder. Also included is a
lengthy account by Mrs. Lightfoot of the PTA's accomplishments in
the 1946-1947 school year. Newspaper clippings provide a
concise record of the organization's activities for the year.
