The Beaumont Campfire Council Scrapbook, 1940-1942
DESCRIPTION
The first known Camp Fire Group in Beaumont was organized in 1917. In 1937 Mrs. W. L.
Jones ("Jonesie") became guardian of the Fukilo Camp Fire Girls. Summer activities included
breakfast cook -outs, nature hikes, and swimming. In 1938, Miss Catherine Wahlstrom, National
Field Secretary, helped local residents form an official council. The temporary Council of the
Beaumont Camp Fire Girls met at the Hotel Beaumont on November 21, 1938. One hundred
and seventy seven girls enrolled in the program. The Council held its first annual meeting
January 10, 1939. In 1940, the council's application for incorporation was approved and
Grace Newth was hired as Executive Director.
This collection contains one scrapbook covering 1940-1941. Clippings comprise the collection's
content. Daily articles describe activities and events.
