Your America Day by Day in Pictures, 1948-1949
DESCRIPTION
This scrapbook is a collection of articles covering the history of the United States, beginning
with the inauguration of George Washington in 1788. The Beaumont Journal published the daily
series for one year (1948-1949), adapted from the "Album of American History" edited by
James Truslow Adams. The articles tend toward popular rather than scholarly history; short
narratives provide stirring depictions of epic battles and heroic deeds. Stories encompass the
pantheon of American mythology from Nathaniel Hale to Charles Lindbergh. Many articles
dealt with social issues such as women's suffrage, sports, cartoons, technology, and scientific
inventions. However, political and military history dominate the contents of the scrapbook
articles.
The scrapbook is arranged in its original order. Newspaper articles are arranged
chronologically. One folder contains loose clippings.
No restrictions apply.
