Given a copy of the most current edition of the DOT North American Emergency
Response Guidebook, the firefighter shall describe the difference between the protective action
distances in the orange-bordered guide pages and the green-bordered pages in the document and
the circumstances under which the distances are used at a hazardous materials incident.

Given the most current edition of the DOT North American Emergency Response
Guidebook, you shall identify by verbalizing to the examiner the difference between the
protective action distances in the orange-bordered guide pages and the protective action distances
in the green-bordered pages in the document and describe the circumstances under which the
distances are used at a hazardous materials incident.
You will begin on my instruction to start. The skill will end when you state to me that
you have completed all of the identified steps. Do you understand these instructions?
