The firefighter shall demonstrate the proper method of converting and extending a charged 2-½”
line into one 1-¾” attack line and shall operate a nozzle. The firefighter shall accomplish the skill in 5
minutes or less.

While wearing full protective clothing and a self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), you
shall demonstrate the proper method of converting and extending a charged hose line into a smaller attack
line. You shall demonstrate the open and closed nozzle positions and any stream adjustments that are
characteristic of the nozzle. You will have 5 minutes to complete this skill. You will begin on my
instruction to start. The skill will end when you state to me that you have completed the identified steps.

All extra equipment to perform this evolution shall be placed 5 feet from the coupling of the
section to be extended. The extra hose shall be rolled with the female coupling exposed. The firefighter
will not be allowed to review the performance steps at the time of testing.

C. 100 feet of 1 ¾” hose

G. Siamese or similar hose appliance
H. Hose Clamp
I. Hydrant or fire truck can be used for water supply
.
NOTE: The firefighter shall accomplish the skill wearing “FULL PROTECTIVE
CLOTHING FOR STRUCTURAL FIREFIGHTER”as required by the Texas Commission
on Fire Protection to include helmet, coat, boots, hood, and trousers. Gloves shall be
optional. Firefighter will not don face piece or hood.
