The firefighter will demonstrate how the pike pole is used to open different types of
ceilings. The firefighter will demonstrate the use of a fire axe and a prying tool

Given the proper equipment, you will demonstrate:
A. How a pike pole is used to open different types of ceilings
B. How to remove a baseboard, locate wall studs and/or joists by sounding, and evaluate
the interior wall conditions using a fire axe and a prying tool
C. How to remove window casings using a fire axe and a prying tool.
You will begin on my instruction to start. The skill will end when you state to me that
you have completed all of the identified steps. Do you understand these instructions?

The firefighter will not be allowed to review the performance steps at the time of testing.

Note: The firefighter shall accomplish the skills wearing “FULL PROTECTIVE
CLOTHING FOR STRUCTURAL FIREFIGHTER” as required by the Texas Commission
on Fire Protection to include helmet, gloves, coat, trousers, boots, and SCBA. Firefighter
will not don face piece or hood.
