I. Objective
The firefighter shall describe and demonstrate the procedures for terminating utility
service (electrical, gas, and water) to a building.
II. Instructions – Procedures for Achieving the Objective
You will be given a choice of required tools. Utilizing these tools, you shall verbally
describe and demonstrate locating the proper shutoff locations and simulate shutting off the
valves or control devices for gas, water, and electric service to a building. You will wear full
protective clothing for this skill. You will begin on my instruction to start. The skill will end
when you state to me that you have completed all of the identified steps. Do you understand
these instructions?
III. Examiner’s Note
The firefighter will not be allowed to review the performance steps at the time of testing.
IV. Preparation & Equipment
A. Water meter key
B. Gas meter key
C. Spanner wrench
D. Adjustable wrench
Note: The firefighter shall accomplish the skill wearing “ FULL PROTECTIVE
CLOTHING FOR STRUCTURAL FIREFIGHTERS” as required by the Texas
Commission on Fire Protection to include helmet, gloves, coat, trousers, boots, SCBA.
