The City Council of the City of Beaumont, Texas, met in a regular session on November 5, 2013,
at the City Hall Council Chambers, 801 Main Street, Beaumont, Texas, at 1:30 p.m. to consider
the following:

Mayor Ames called the council meeting to order at 1:30 p.m.
Councilmember Samuel gave the invocation. Mayor Ames led the Pledge of Allegiance. Roll call
was made by Tina Broussard, City Clerk.
Present at the meeting were Mayor Ames, Mayor Pro Tern Wright, Councilmembers Coleman,
Getz, Pate and Samuel. Absent: Councilmember Smith. Also present were Kyle Hayes, City
Manager; Tyrone Cooper, City Attorney; Tina Broussard, City Clerk.
Councilmember Smith was absent due to work.
Proclamations, Presentations, Recognitions
"Dr. Kenneth Evans Day" - November 5, 2013 - Proclamation read by Mayor Ames;
accepted by Dr. Kenneth Evans, President of Lamar University, in honor of his Investiture
"Municipal Court Week" — November 4 -8, 2013 — Proclamation read by Councilmember
Samuel; accepted by Judge Terrance Holmes of Municipal Court, as well as Laura Clark,
Chief Financial Officer who is over Municipal Court
"National Adoption Day" — November 22, 2013 — Proclamation read by Councilmember
Coleman; accepted by Shari Pulliman, Child Protective Services
"Alzheimer's Awareness Day" — November 20, 2013 - Proclamation read by Mayor Pro
Tern Wright; accepted by Linda Domino and others
"Diabetes Awareness Week" — November 3 -9, 2013 — Proclamation read by
Councilmember Pate; accepted by Robert Blackburn with District 2 -S1 Lions and others
The Mayor announced the passing of a Jimmie Cokinos, who was a political icon of the City of
Beaumont. Mr. Cokinos served as Mayor of the City of Beaumont from 1956 to 1960, and then
served as City Manager from 1969 -1970. Deepest sympathies go out to his wife Bonnie, and the
Cokinos family

Councilmember Getz made a motion to approve the Consent Agenda. Councilmember
Pate seconded the motion.

Stoppers of Southeast Texas, the event will be on Thursday, November 7, 2013 at 5:15
p.m., Larry Beaulieu will be the MC for the event

Spoke to Council regarding a building that he owns at 2002 Park, he is unable to meet the
deadline that the Building Codes Department has given him, asked that his Councilmember
come by and view his building, at this point he is unable to complete his building and in the
middle of a lawsuit, needs some help and resolution to this issue
Open session of meeting recessed at 2:18 p.m.
There being no action taken in Executive Session, Council adjourned.
