from the U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and has previously

Administration recommended award of an annual contract to purchase fire hydrants at a unit
costs from H. D. Supply Waterworks of Lufkin. The estimated total annual expenditure is
$129,657.80.
Bids were solicited for an annual contract supply American Flo Control fire hydrants to be
installed by the Water Utilities Department throughout the City as needed. Sixteen (16)
vendors were notified, with three (3) responding.
Specifications required vendors to maintain firm pricing for the entire contract period. Due
to price fluctuations in the cost of raw materials used in the production of various contract
items, particularly brass, some vendors are wary of guaranteeing prices for a full year.
Conditional bids that included escalation clauses were not considered.
