WHEREAS, on August 15, 2006, the City Council of the City of Beaumont, Texas,
passed Resolution No. 06-229 awarding a contract in the amount of$1,845,000 to Bruce's
General Construction, Inc., Beaumont, Texas, to furnish all labor, materials, supplies and
equipment to renovate the interior of the Julie Rogers Theatre; and,
WHEREAS, Change Order No. 1 was required for extra work in the amount of
$5,331.75 thereby increasing the contract to $1,850„331.75; and,
WHEREAS, Change Order No. 2 in the amount of $65,380.01 increasing the
contract amount to $1,915,712.76 is requested for extra projects shown below due to
unforseen damage or modifications to enhance the building:
1. Addition of rubber flooring in the elevator, stage door foyer, kitchen in
Green Room, and both concession areas on the 1st and 2nd floors
i carpet in the meeting and deletion of basic c p g room and 2nd floor
women*s lounge. Also deleted was a ceramic wainscot in all
restrooms that was not available for shipment until February possibly
delaying the building*s completion.
2. Remove and replace glazing compound on all exterior windows.
During the renovation, it was discovered that the exterior window
glazing had failed. During heavy wind driven rains, water enters and
damages interior work. Broken panes will also be replaced.
3. Installation of a new ramp and handrail on north and south auditorium
entrances. Previously, the entrance to the auditorium included a set
of steps, a landing and then another set of steps. The second set of
steps will be removed and replaced with a ramp. This modification
will provide a more safe and accommodating entrance.
4. Replacement of the laminate on the dressing room countertops was
not included in the original bid. The laminate is chipped, cracked and
in some areas attached with duct tape.
5. Repair all plaster damage caused by water damage in the auditorium
ceiling. In the original bid, the cost of plaster repairs was based on
visible evidence. After Conrad Schmitt Studios began their work,
extensive water damage was discovered.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE
CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT:
THAT the City Manager be and he is hereby authorized to execute Change Order No. 2
in the amount of$65,380.01 thereby increasing the contract amount to $1,915,712.76 as
required for extra projects shown above due to unforseen damage or modifications to
enhance the building be accepted by the City of Beaumont.
PASSED BY THE CITY COUNCIL of the City of Beaumont this the 5th day of
