HELD AUGUST 22, 1978 BE IT REMEMBERED that the City Council of the City of Beaumont , Texas , met in regular session this 22nd day of August , 1978 , with the following present : HONORABLE : Maurice Meyers Mayor Tom Combs, Jr. Councilman, Ward I Calvin Williams Councilman, Ward III Leroy Evans Councilman, Ward IV Absent : Vi McGinnis Councilwoman, Ward II Ray Riley City Manager Lane Nichols Asst . City Attorney Myrtle Corgey City Clerk -000- The Invocation was given by the Reverend Byron Crocker, St . Stephens Episcopal Church. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Councilman Williams. -000- Resolution 78-289 authorizing the award of bid to Kent-Moore Service Tool Division of Kent-Moore Corp. for furnishing tools for the Beaumont Transit Maintenance Shop at a cost of $1 , 351 . 20 (UMTA grant portion 807o, state 1370 and City 7%) was approved on a motion made by Councilman Combs and seconded by Councilman Evans. Question : Ayes : All Nayes : None -000- A resolution authorizing the award of bid to Norstok Steel Building Company for the purchase of materials for construction of six project instructor buildings for the Fire Department was considered : Councilman Evans made a motion to approve; Councilman Williams seconded the motion. After a brief discussion, it was decided to table the resolution for one week. Councilman Williams made the motion to defer action; motion secon- ded by Councilman Combs. Question : Ayes : All Nayes : None -000- Resolution 78-290 authorizing the award of bid to Utility Supply Company for furnishing approximately 2100 feet of 8" asbestos-cement pipe for use by the Water Utilities Department at a cost of $6, 720. 00 was approved on a motion made by Councilman Evans and seconded by Councilman Williams . Question : Ayes : All Nayes : None -000- Resolution 78-291 authorizing the award of bid and the execution of a con- tract with Renco Supply, Inc. ($10, 075. 00) , Southwestern Materials ($16, 899. 25) , and Minnesota Mining & Manufacturing Company ($3 ,635. 10) for a one year period for road marking materials for the Traffic and Transportation Department was approved on a motion made by Councilman Williams and seconded by Councilman Evans . Question : Ayes : All Nayes : None -000- -128- August 22 , 1978 Ordinance No. 78-89 appropriating $7, 000 in unappropriated revenue sharing entitlements I-VII , and awarding bid to Westcott Construction Company for construction of the covered play area for Carroll Street Park was consid- ered : ORDINANCE NO. 78-89 ENTITLED AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE BUDGET OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT FOR THE FISCAL PERIOD COMMENCING OCTOBER 1 , 1977, AND ENDING SEPTEMBER 30, 1978 , BY APPROPRIATING $7, 000 FROM UNAPPROPRIATED REVENUE SHARING ENTITLEMENTS I-VII TO PROJECT NO. 73-78-041 AND AWARDING A BID TO WESTCOTT CONSTRUCTION COMPANY FOR THE CARROLL PARK COVERED AREA. The ordinance was approved on a motion made by Councilman Evans and secon- ded by Councilman Williams. Question : Ayes : All Nayes : None -000- Resolution 78-292 authorizing the award of bid to Westinghouse Electric Company for furnishing luminaires, lamps, cables and bases on an annual contract basis at a cost of $12, 160. 30 was approved on a motion made by Councilman Williams and seconded by Councilman Evans. Question : Ayes : All Nayes : None -000- Resolution . 78-293 accepting two concrete tennis courts at Magnolia Park and authorizing final payment to Cajun Concrete Works , Inc . (total con- tract cost - $14, 958. 10) was approved on a motion made by Councilman Combs and seconded by Councilman Evans. Question : Ayes : All Nayes : None -000- Resolution 78-294 granting an easement across Tyrrell Library property to Gulf States Utilities Company for installation of underground cable to serve Riverfront Blvd. was approved on a motion made by Councilman Evans and seconded by Councilman Williams. Question : Ayes : All Nayes : None -000- The Minutes of the regular City Council session held August 15, 1978 , were approved on a motion made by Councilman Evans and seconded by Councilman Williams .
