CITY COUNCIL - CITY OF BEAUMONT
HELD MAY 3, 1977
BE IT REMEMBERED that the City Council of the City of Beaumont, Texas,
met in regular session this the 3rd day of May, 1977 , with the following
present:

The Invocation was given by Mr. Mark Bauer, Vicar for Bethlehem Lutheran
Church.
The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Councilman Evans.

Mayor Ritter issued the following proclamations : "Jasper Lions Rodeo
Days" - May 11-14 , 1977; "Clean Air Week in Beaumont" - May 1-7 , 1977;
"Historic Preservation Week in Beaumont" - May 8-14, 1977; "Municipal
Clerks Week in Beaumont" - May 9-15 , 1977; and "National Nursing Home
Week in Beaumont" - May 8-14 , 1977.

Lady Claire Summerville, representative of the Magnolia Garden Club, pre-
sented the "Beautify Beaumont" award to the Beaumont Public Library and
the Parks Department for landscaping and maintenance of grounds.

Mr. Jim McCullough, general manager of Radio station KQXY - 94 on the
FM dial -- addressed Council to say KQXY will present 94 rose bushes to the
City for fall planting in the City parks or other City property. Long-
stemmed red roses were presented to women present for today's meeting.

The minutes of the regular City Council session held April 26, 1977 , were
approved on a motion made by Councilwoman McGinnis and seconded by Council-
man Evans.

Resolution 77-134 authorizing the award of bid to Hi-Way Equipment Company,
Inc. for furnishing one (1) spreader for use in the Street Division at a
cost of $3 , 399. 00, was approved on a motion made by Councilman Evans and
seconded by Councilwoman McGinnis.

Ordinance Nos. 43 , 44 , 45 , and 46 authorizing zoning changes for a 642. 63
acre tract, located generally fronting on the east right-of-way line of
South Major Drive from approximately 2950 feet north of Walden Road and
continuing south along Major Drive to Brooks Road, extending east along
Walden Road for approximately 3650 feet and east along Brooks Road for
approximately 3400 feet, were considered:

was seconded by Councilwoman McGinnis.

Resolution 77-135 authorizing repairs by World Wide Welding & Press Company
of Houston, Texas, to dozer #50-5010, a 1975 Allis-Chalmers HD 11, used by
the Solid Waste Division, estimated cost of parts and labor - $6 ,000. 00,
was approved on a motion made by Councilwoman McGinnis and seconded by
Councilman Evans.

Ordinance No. 77-49 authorizing an amendment to the Parking Ordinance
giving members of the Lamar University Police Department authority to en-
force the City Parking Ordinance on City streets in and around Lamar Uni-
versity was considered:

UPON CERTAIN OFFICERS; PROVIDING FOR REPEAL;
PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY AND PROVIDING FOR
A PENALTY.
