Mayor Meyers said that the Mayor' s Committee for the Employment of

Mr. Frank Dover, 1215 Sandwood, addressed Council to commend them for
the recent action taken for a permanent and ongoing fund to eliminate
street problems, to bring them up to standard and keep them in that
condition, by initiating a street user fee. Mr. Dover said he
supported the street user fee instead of a tax, since tax dollars can
be redirected at discretion and the monies, therefore, not dedicated
for street repair and maintenance. He added that Beaumont is no longer
leading cities in tax rates, but is now about 13th or 14th.
Mr. Wayne Sherman, 325 Bradford, addressed Council in support of the
street user fee adopted, commended them for the effort and thought in
making the assessment as fair as possible, and complimented the idea of
a dedicated fund for ongoing repairs.

There being no further business, the meeting was recessed before
continuing with the City Council Workshop Session.
