MAYOR PRO-TEM SAMUEL:
It is with extreme pleasure that we take this opportunity to recognize some
of those individuals that serve our community, sometime behind the scene,
but they truly serve it with - all their heart. On June the 18th of 1988,
Downtown Beaumont marked the revitalization of a traditional holiday for
the residents of Beaumont and particularly the Black residents in Beaumont.
-184- July 12, 1988
This was the Juneteenth Kickoff, and they had many of the activities
Downtown. It was a collective effort of many volunteers and with the
conjunction of our Recreational Department. And at this time I would like
to present a plaque to two of Co-Sponsors of this activity, and I would ask
that Mr. Jesse Samuels and Mr. Richard Carroll please come forward, and the
plaque reads, "In recognition of your service to the community the Mayor
and the City Council of Beaumont, Texas. KISS-98 Juneteenth, 1988. " We
thank you very much, Doc, (Richard Carroll) you've done a great deal of
work in the community, not only in this project, but in many others. This
is a small way we say thank-you, but we truly mean it from our heart.
Thank you Mr. Samuels, I appreciate it.
Mr. Carroll presented a "Fitness Official Juneteenth Tee-shirt" to each
member of Council, the City Attorney and City Manager from KISS-98fm for
