RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, tax abatement is predicated on a finding that the Hegele Building and the
Friedman Building are historically significant sites in need of tax relief to encourage
preservation; and,
WHEREAS, the Historic Landmark Commission has met and considered this application
and has found the sites to be historically significant sites in need of tax relief to encourage
preservation and certified this fact to the Planning Director of the City of Beaumont; and,
WHEREAS, the City's Planning Director has forwarded the application to the City
Council, as required by the ordinance of the City of Beaumont; and,
WHEREAS, the Council desires to approve the eligibility of the property for tax relief
pursuant to the ordinances of the City of Beaumont;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE
CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT:
THAT the application for tax exemption for the Hegele Building and the Friedman Building
described in Exhibit "A" and Exhibit "B" attached hereto and made a part hereof for all
purposes is hereby approved and the City Council hereby affirmatively finds that all the
requirements of Article IV of Chapter 25 of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Beaumont,
as amended, have been met and that the sites are historically significant sites in need of tax
relief to encourage preservation and that, in accordance with the ordinances of the City of
Beaumont, the assessed value for ad valorem taxation of the subject tract and property shall be
equal to the assessed value prior to preservation for a period of ten (10) years. This exemption
shall begin on the first (1st) day of the first (1st) tax year after verification of completion of the
preservation required for certification, provided that the provision of Section 25-58 of the Code
of Ordinances have been met and that such verification is made by the City of Beaumont
Historical Landmark Commission.

10. Description:
Two story brick two part commercial block divided into three bays. First story covered in imitation board and batten
siding with glazed tile covered pilaster. Plate glass display windows, central frame and glass double doors. There
is an unused side entrance with a frosted glass transom that says "Boston Hotel". Wood shingle awning between first
and second story below brick stringcourse. Twelve windows (boarded) symmetrically placed four per bay on second
story. Decorative brickwork on parapet. Stylized masonry pilaster capitals rise above roofline.
11. Present Condition Fair. Unsyoathetic alterations severely detract from the building's architectural integrity.
12. Significance:
This building is typical of the smaller commercial structures built outside the central business district just after
the turn of the century. There is same evidence indicating it may have been a hotel serving the nearby depots.
Compatible building in National Register Beaumont Commercial Historic District.

double hung sash symmetrically placed on second story. Decorative brickwork on parapet. Plain concrete cornice.
11. Present Condition Fair. Unsympathetic alterations severely detract from the buildings architectural integrity.
12. Significance:
This building is typical of commercial structures built outside the central business district just after the turn
of the century. Contributing building in National Register Beaumont Commercial Historic District.
