RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, recent events and news reports have suggested the possibility of a
move to relocate the District 20 headquarters of the Texas Department of Highways and
Public Transportation away from Beaumont to another locality; and,
WHEREAS, being the site of the highway department's district headquarters has
traditionally been a major asset to this community as a governmental center comparable
to its distinction as the county seat of Jefferson County; and,
WHEREAS, the district headquarters is equivalent to a major industry in its
contribution to Beaumont's economy; and,
WHEREAS, the district headquarters in one of the mainstays of the city's
prospects for future growth and economic development; and,
WHEREAS, proximity of the district headquarters has played an important role in
coordinating and advancing transportation improvements for Beaumont and the
surrounding area;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE
CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT:
THAT we go on record as strongly opposing any move to relocate the District 20
Headquarters of the Texas Department of Highways and Public Transportation away
from Beaumont and call upon all citizens of Beaumont and the surrounding area to join
in efforts to keep the district headquarter here and specifically urge all businesses and

civic organizations, gow mental agencies and legislators tt ,.jin in a concerted effort
to retain the district headquarters facilities at their Beaumont location.
