WHEREAS, thousands of men and women over America are being called to
active duty with miliary reserve components because of the crisis in the Middle East;
and,
WHEREAS, several employees of the City of Beaumont are members of reserve
components and may be called to serve during this emergency, and a number have
already reported for duty; and,
WHEREAS, for the reservists this service will mean leaving their homes and
families and jobs for a period of 90 days or longer with little time to prepare for this
sudden change in their lives; and,
WHEREAS, the City Council is desirous of giving support to these reservists and
America's armed forces in every possible way and urge all citizens of Beaumont to do
likewise; and,
WHEREAS, the Council wishes to do as much as possible to assist city
employees who are reservists and ease their transition to military service from civilian
life,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE
CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT:
THAT, for the duration of the current 90-day call out of reserves by President Bush, it
shall be the policy of the City that all city employees called to active duty in the reserves
during the 90-day period shall be compensated for the difference between their service
pay and their base salary with the City for a period of 90 calendar days. And be it
further resolved that insurance coverage for their dependents be continued for the same

90-day period at no cost to the reservists.
PASSED BY THE CITY COUNCIL of the City of Beaumont this day of
