HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 90-138 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, the Community Foundation Fund of the City was established from unpaid Council wages of Michael Brumley as Councilman for the City of Beaumont; and, WHEREAS, the City Council desires to dedicated the sum of $20,031.00 from the Community Foundation Fund for the purpose of financing a literacy training project; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT: That $20, 031. 00 from the Community Foundation Fund be, and the same is hereby dedicated and allocated for the purpose of establishing a literacy program substantially in the form shown on Exhibit "A" attached hereto and made a part hereof for all purposes. Also included is the following software: - Reading for Meaning Levels I-IV This is designed to help students improve their reading comprehension skills. As students read stories and answer questions, they develop skills to help them predict story outcomes, infer meaning, and summarize information. Reading for Information Level II This is designed to assist upper level students in improving their reading skills. Touch Typing for Beginners This is designed to make the students feel more comfortable with the use of the computer and teaches touch typing. Primary Editor Plus This is help the student to start writing and editing. In literacy training, students are encouraged to write stories, etc. and this would be used for that purpose. $17,833 2 Personal Tutor cassette players and Formula Three reading program @ $999 $ 1,998 2 sets of Literacy Volunteers of America Read On series on tape for use with the Personal Tutor cassette Players @ $100 $ 200 Grand Total $20, 031. 00 Information on the equipment and programs listed above is attached.
